Our ever-popular Oakwell Shrug knitting pattern is now available to download!
This garment is named after a medieval country estate where I live. Built for the Batt family in the 16th century,
it has links to the Brontë family and subsequently featured as Fieldhead in Charlotte’s novel Shirley. Oakwell is
a short-sleeved summer shrug, designed to be worn open so there is a gap between the fronts. It will complement
your prettiest dresses and serve as a useful autumnal layering piece. The garment is knitted in five separate
pieces (back, two fronts and two sleeves) which are then seamed together, and a rib border added up the fronts
and around the neck.
This useful shrug comes in 4 sizes, to fit busts of 32″, 35″, 38″ and 42″, with yarn requirements as follows :
2-3-3-4 100g skeins of Doulton Border Leicester 4ply yarn in Mount Grace, or your chosen main shade
Mini skeins from the Yorkshire Moorland 4ply mini skein set, using 3-4g for each stripe (5 stripes in total). You may choose to have your stripes in fewer, or all the same colour.
