Alum Beck 4ply Yarn. This beautiful worsted spun high end Border Leicester yarn is grown here on our farm in North Yorkshire, from our pedigree flock of over 300 pedigree Border Leicester sheep, who all live to grow old.

After shearing we handpick the fleeces and transport them to Bradford for washing, combing and worsted spinning. Once you have worked with it, you will agree that the result is stunning.  With a great handle, stitch definition and drape, it is the perfect yarn for your special project. The perfect choice for colour work, it is especially good for stranded knitting and steeking. It is British through and through and we are very proud of it!

The Cleveland Hills, multiple stacked layers of Jurassic age and sedimentary rock have been a source of alum for centuries, along with other minerals which enabled the expansion of many North Yorkshire towns. Alum Beck 4ply yarn reflects the silky slate grey water which flowed through villages as a result of work to access these mineral deposits.
