Description
Mulgrave Toque and Mitts Pattern is now available as a download – our first new design of 2026!
This set of accessories features simple tree motifs knitted in the round using fair-isle technique. The Mitts have a checkerboard palm and an Afterthought Thumb. The Toque has a rounded brim and slight slouch. Mulgrave was designed especially for our beautiful, rare-breed 4ply yarn, with the fair-isle element providing you with a double layer and extra warmth.
Why not try just two colours for a smart, Nordic look, or use multiple mini skeins to bring the tree motifs to life. We have a wide colour range so the possibilities are endless! It’s also a great design for you to do some stash-busting, and we’re sure you’ll be knitting our Mulgrave Toque and Mitts multiple times.
Mulgrave was named after ancient woodlands just north of Whitby, North Yorkshire. These woods hide an ancient castle, which was by legend founded by Wada, a 6th-century ruler of Hälsingland. Next time you’re in Whitby, park at Sandsend and go castle-hunting – you won’t be disappointed!
The following amounts of Doulton Border Leicester 4ply yarn are required if using 2 colours only:
| Item | Main colour | Contrast |
| Toque | 50g | 1 x 25g mini skein |
| Mitts | 50g | 1 x 25 g mini skein |
| Toque and Mitts | 100g | 2 x 25g mini skeins |
The sample features Mount Grace as the main colour and a Yorkshire Woodland mini-skein set for the contrast.
After purchase you will receive a link to download the pattern.
