Description

Dedicated to St Mary in 1156, Jervaulx Abbey was one of the great Cistercian abbeys of Yorkshire and a sister to Byland Abbey.  Its original French name was Jorvalle, which means ‘Ure valley’, the river on whose banks it stood. The last abbot, Adam Sedbergh, was hanged at Tyburn in 1537 after joining the Pilgrimage of Grace, following which the abbey was taken by Henry VIII. The beautiful ruins are privately owned but open to the public. Our Jervaulx is a stunning pumpkin colour, rich and warm.

This beautiful worsted spun high end Border Leicester yarn is grown here on our farm in North Yorkshire, from our pedigree flock of over 300 pedigree Border Leicester sheep, who all live to grow old.

After shearing we handpick the fleeces and transport them to Bradford for washing, combing and worsted spinning. The result is stunning.  With a great handle, stitch definition and drape, it is the perfect yarn for your special project. British through and through and we are very proud of it!
