Description

Bilsdale 4ply yarn. This beautiful worsted spun high end Border Leicester yarn is grown here on our farm in North Yorkshire, from our pedigree flock of over 300 pedigree Border Leicester sheep. Ours is a slaughter-free flock, so all of our sheep live to grow old.

After shearing we handpick the fleeces and transport them to Bradford for washing, combing and worsted spinning. You will agree that the result is stunning.  With a great handle, stitch definition and drape, it is the perfect yarn for your special project. It is British through and through and we are very proud of it!

Bilsdale was named after someone called Bildr, a name in Old Norse, and therefore means ‘Bildr’s Valley’.  On the western part of the North Yorks Moors, Bilsdale begins at Hasty Bank and extends south almost to Hawnby. Kirkham Priory and Rievaulx Abbey shared ownership of Bilsdale in the 12th century, with the land being further split following the Dissolution. Jet was mined extensively here in the 19th century, with spoil heaps still visible. You will find lots of trails for walking and mountain biking there, so it’s a lovely place to visit.  Come and explore it for yourself!

Our Bilsdale 4ply yarn is a lovely pale lilac, fresh yet soothing, and it tones remarkably well with other shades in our range.
