Description
Saltholme DK Yarn.
This beautiful worsted spun high end Border Leicester yarn is grown here on our farm in North Yorkshire, from our pedigree flock of over 300 Border Leicester sheep. Ours is a slaughter-free flock, so all of our sheep live to grow old.
After shearing we handpick the fleeces and transport them to Bradford for washing, combing and worsted spinning. The result is stunning. With a great handle, stitch definition and drape, it is the perfect yarn for your special project. British through and through and we are very proud of it! Our yarn is great for cables and colour work. It has the necessary ‘sticky’ qualities which make it perfect for stranded knitting and steeking.
The Saltholme wetlands include an RSPB nature reserve, just north of Port Clarence. Here you can get up close to Common Terns, Lapwing, Gold Plover and the occasional buzzard, as well as plenty of walking and cycle paths. Saltholme DK yarn is a beautiful teal colour, whose name comes from the blue-green flashes on the heads of teal ducks. Hundreds of these can be seen in the Saltholme reserve, with some staying all year round.
