The ridge on the hill where the Wainstones is located, continues up onto a typical North York Moors moorland. There is a covering of heather over much of the area and in August it flowers and becomes a purple carpet, reminiscent of the purple of our Cringle Moor yarn. Cringle Moor at 432 m (1,417 ft), is the third highest hill in the North York Moors and it is part of the Cleveland Hills, just like Roseberry Topping and the Wainstones.
