Sandsend DK Yarn

Description

Sandsend DK yarn.  This beautiful worsted spun high end Border Leicester yarn is grown here on our farm in North Yorkshire, from our pedigree flock of over 300 pedigree Border Leicester sheep. Ours is a slaughter-free flock, so all of our sheep live to grow old.

After shearing we handpick the fleeces and transport them to Bradford for washing, combing and worsted spinning. The result is stunning.  With a great handle, stitch definition and drape, it is the perfect yarn for your special project. It is British through and through and we are very proud of it!

North of Whitby, at the end of a long sandy beach we find Sandsend. It is a small fishing village in a little bay that has formed where two streams flow from the North Yorkshire Moors and into the sea. One of the most picturesque villages on the North Yorkshire coast, it is located against steep cliffs at its northern point.  At the other end of the stretch of sands you can see the ruins of Whitby Abey. And dotted about are the cottages where the Alum workers used to live.

The colours of the lovely sands of Sandsend change with the light and the sea conditions but our soft, gentle yellow Sandsend DK yarn gives an inkling of how they can look.
